Okay, saw the two clips (and read some more info) and I’m still honestly enthusiastic about it. Some stuff I noticed:
*I really enjoyed Bumblebee’s portrayal when he got his voice box back and it seems RID is sticking with it. He’s a capable leader and has grown into a mature figure since his early days in Prime (that I could make out; Prime did an iffy job convincing me of his character for the most part), but he’s still new to this job. He has a lot of live up to being under Optimus’ shadow. In a way, I see a lot of TFA Optimus in him and I love TFA Optimus, so I’m very excited on his possible character development as a leader worthy to fill OP’s shoes.
For that matter, I am very glad they are going from the central Optimus vs. Megatron conflict and attempting something new. Sure, Bee is a very popular and familiar character, but if they were going to shoehorn in one well-known bot, it might as well be him. And he's certainly more tolerable than Smokescreen in any case. 'Sides, I can't take Prime OP and Megatron seriously in any case and being this is a legitimate sequel series, I'm glad they chose to leave those two out of the limelight.
*Judging by Strongarm’s comments, she takes her Elite Guard duties seriously. My guess is she’s like a rookie version of G1 Prowl. That makes me squeal something fierce. She’s definitely the best designed robot so far and I want her toy now. <3
*Grimlock not speak like this? Actually, I like that he doesn’t speak Grimlock-ish, though not because I have anything against it. I think it's another neat way of differing him from what we usually see of the character.
*Fixit looks, sounds, and acts adorable. Oh please let him be the dweeby nerd. Pretty please!
*Not much to say on the humans. The boy looks generic, but I may be spoiled after Sari Sumdac (who still passes the highest bar for human companion by being the sole target representative while being both Asian and female; something this Korean chick really, really is thankful for) and the diversity shared by the three kids in TFP. The father looks more hyped than his son which could mean the kid might play the mature figure.
This can be either a good or bad thing. Bad because I hate Dumb Father tropes. Good because this could mean the child will NOT be annoying Ben 10 levels of jackassery. I guess we’ll see how it goes. I do like the possibility of an adult figure factoring into the Autobot’s lives. I don’t think we get enough of those that aren’t Important Government Types. So meh on the humans, but we’ll see how it goes.
*I still like the animation. I love the cel-shaded look, but I may be biased, I tend to enjoy the aesthetic appeal of cel-shading.
*A couple of people have stated the dialogues are pretty average, but I don’t quite see it? The dialogues sound fun and lighthearted and given the tone the series is supposedly going for, it fits. One of the largest problems I had with Prime is that its overt seriousness was constantly belied by its terribly cheesy dialogues. I think Robots in Disguise will benefit better from this.
*According to the recent NYCC panel, they mentioned the Decepticons will have their own motivations and personal agendas - some more bigger than others. That sounds super keen.
*Oh my God, is that a Giant Lobster Robot? Rescue Bots’ Flobster has competition!
