WEBSiTE UPDATE: Just a fashion page for Valerie and Danielle.

That's kinda hot.

One of the things I have to admit is that I admire the dedication and determination of fans who cannot accept Danny Phantom's cancellation. Their love for the show feels almost unparalleled and the sense of loyalty and devotion is unquestionable. The only problem I have with some of these fans is that they tend to get so angry and pissed that they often rant and accuse the wrong people and/or gets their facts wrong. This isn't directed to anyone and is just a little rant to set things straight.

1. "They focus waaaaaay too much on Spongebob/Spongebob got Danny Phantom cancelled!" One of the major, major things I see DP fans accuse of is Spongebob Squarepants. They whine and moan about how this show took away DP's limelight, how despite DP's popularity compared to Spongebob, the former was still canned. Where do you guys get the idea that Danny Phantom is just as popular as Spongebob? Where? The reason Nickelodeon splashes the sponge in every product made on Earth and sponsor just about anything minor to it is simply put, the franchise makes them money.

Spongebob Squarepants isn't just popular, it is a phenomenal. It remains one of the most top rated children's children's cartoons and is usually the reason why Nickelodeon dominates kid's markets. Nearly every one of Spongebob's special episodes garners an average viewing of 8 million. Compared to Danny Phantom's "The Ultimate Enemy" which scored 4 million or "Reality Trip" with 3.7 million. And keep in mind, these are only special episodes which tend to be more advertised then an average one. There's a hell of a lot more of these ratings scattered all over the internet that you can fine with simple research - I haven't posted even close to a fraction of it. Do not be surprised to see Spongebob's name frequenting the top cable/top children's show listing. The reason why it's constantly airing? That. It brings in the rating. Has Danny Phantom made it on Top Ten kid's cable list? Of course, but it pales in comparison to Spongebob and doesn't frequent the spot as much as Spongebob does.

For that matter, why is DP the only one getting the victim treatment? Other Nicktoons shows canned during Spongebob's time are My Life as a Teenage Robot, El Tigre, The Mighty B, All Grown Ups, The Xs, Catscratch, and so forth. Now, maybe you don't like these shows and think they're crap, but that's hardly an excuse to think DP is the only show that deserves special treatment. What is one fan's trash is another fan's treasure.

2. "Danny Phantom didn't get advertised enough!" Simply put, Nickelodeon is, first and foremost, a business. That means whatever brings in the rating/money, they are going to focus on first. There have been plenty of ads given to DP during its early heydays, but they decreased in time because the show did not give them the proper ratings they want. Lots of you guys complaining are mostly teenagers/young adults. You guys also forgot that Nickelodeon's PRIMARY target are children. That's why it's the #1 rated kid's cable network, it's why they focus more attention on their target demographic. DP simply did not get that type of audience nor enough ratings to ensure anything beyond three seasons. That is also why DP is often on at 6:30 in the morning. It is still a recent enough show that they can let it rerun in their primary station, but at the same time, finished and done with that they don't have to bother.

Now, I agree. I do believe its severe executive meddling, out of order episode airing, and lack of ads did contribute to the hurt. The most they could do was get them all out of the way. DP's merchandise are often little or shoddily made - the latest DVD offerings had the Season Two boxed set in complete out of order which is ignorance in the highest form. Yes, I think they should cut the fans some break, but again, it boils down to what I said before, Nickelodeon is a business, they really won't bother wasting more money making ads on a show that won't necessary bring them the greens that Spongebob can. It's not a move I enjoy as well and yes, it may, indeed, not be fair, but you guys are treating it as though it makes no sense or signals the end of TVdom. No, it doesn't. Shows come and go, canceled or not. They're businessmen and women and generally have a good idea what goes and what stays. And for good reasons (as I stated above). Nothing last forever.

3. "But we're a devoted, loyal fanbase! We're trying to save it/we love it. Doesn't that count for something?" Of course! It counts a lot. You love the show. I love the show. We're fans of the show. The petitions you gave are amazing (even though I didn't participate in any of them - sorry, I don't believe the series needed a fourth season). But the most DP has going is a strong cult following. I know you get a lot of people agreeing on DP's cancellation, but you have to remain yourself that this is merely the internet DP fans.

There are people out there who watch TV who doesn't have access to a computer or doesn't use the internet. Or hell, have one, but tends to just lurk around. The internet fans are only a portion of the fans, so how much of an average fanbase DP is remains unknown with the nielson ratings and other reliable TV rating sites giving in the estimated numbers. And to Nickelodeon, it's just not enough. It's often very rare for a network to renew a canceled show. But the chances of DP coming back with brand new episodes are nil. The series officially ended production in 2006, the last episodes aired in 2007, and Hartman has moved on. He is now involved in Fairly Oddparents and a new series entitled T.U.F.F Puppy coming out this year. I think he's moved on to greener pastures, too.

Conclusion Look, I get it. You guys love the show. I understand. I was upset when I heard it was canned, too, but guys, the series is done. You are allowed to feel upset over it, but you're often clouded with anger that you guys tend to jump the gun and leap into conclusions and accusations without any facts to back it up. Whether you like, hate, or just plain don't care about the network's decisions, a blind accusation tends to end up putting in more hurt then an educated guess or researched facts.

In the end, it's up to you guys to take in whatever I say with face value or a grain of salt. I just wanted to get this out of the clearing.
