If only Cortex knew before hand what he was creating would attribute to his ultimate downfall. But when you make experimental anthropomorphic animals supposedly designed to raise your army, then you're gonna get a few kinks in the system that will end up costing you dearly.
But it's actually nice to see Cortex have a fatherly side in raising the baby Crash Bandicoot. I like your take on what Cortex was like when raising his creations; shows he's not such a bastard after all.

In my story, the original design of the Evol-O-Ray was to create a system of intelligent humanoid animals and to help the endangered (and often hidden) humanoid animals already in Earth. He had a benefit goal.

Crash was the first and the only one using the prototype (which tragically in my tale results in his death because his body system was limited and could no longer support him--but it did get Cortex to redeem his evil ways and set path for the Jak and Crash crossover I built) and was intended to be their first experimental subject. Cortex at this point also lost his wife (she left) and son (he died), so he gave Crash some of his blood during their conception, resulting in what is essentially a clone.

The reason Cortex went mad with evil was a tibit I got from the instruction manual of the first game; where the other scientists rejected his outlandish, but mostly workable theories. They viewed his experiments with Crash too inhuman (and considering they're scientists, that's a big insult) and the project too bizarre. He later met Uka-Uka who helped influence the darkness in his heart and well...things took off from there.

How fate churns the wheel...

Well, back to this...I have to say that...a father should always be attach to his son whether he's a subject or not! I mean it shows love between a family like a father/son relationship and it will make them stronger. Don't you think?
